Verner Panton “Cloverleaf” Modular Sofa for Verpan, 1969

Description

Verner Panton “Cloverleaf” modular sofa for Verpan, green fabric, Denmark, 1969

Verner Panton designed the Cloverleaf modular sofa in 1969, challenging traditional seating concepts. Originally presented at Visiona 2 in Cologne, this sculptural system introduced a fluid, organic approach to modular furniture. The structure consists of three interlocking components: a central module and two armrest modules, allowing infinite configurations. This edition, upholstered in luminous green velvet, emphasizes the sofa’s smooth lines. The undulating backrest forms individual seating niches on both sides, enhancing spatial interaction. Unlike conventional modular sofas, Cloverleaf’s continuous silhouette eliminates visual breaks, adding a puzzle-like effect and reinforcing an immersive design philosophy. The high-resilience foam construction ensures long-term shape retention. Beneath the plush upholstery is hidden a precision-crafted wooden frame. This sofa remains one of the most dynamic expressions of modular seating, merging function with sculptural intent.
