Tobia Scarpa “Pigreco” Dining Chairs for Gavina, 1960, Set of 6

Description

Tobia Scarpa “Pigreco” dining chairs for Gavina, metal and walnut, Italy, 1960, set of six.

Created for the furniture design course of Franco Albini, the “Pigreco” chair has an iconic and elegant design. It features a curved walnut back and a rear paired foot, while two lateral crosspieces support the padded seat. The “Pigreco” evokes the genres of the tub chair and the three-legged chair, but its evident formal qualities have made it a historical-critical success.

Architect and designer, Tobia Scarpa (1935) graduated in 1969 from the University of Venice and, in the same year, won a “Compasso d’Oro” prize for his “Soriana” armchair. He has since then been awarded other design prizes, and his most relevant designs have been displayed in worldwide collections. As an architect, he has worked for public and private clients, discovering new ways of mixing different materials and shapes.

Our atelier carefully restored the chairs. Slight signs of use and time.
