Paolo Buffa coffee table for Galdino Maspero, wood, Italy, 1948
Round coffee table designed by Paolo Buffa and manufactured by Galdino Maspero, Milan, 1948. The circular top features a book-matched chevron veneer radiating from the center in a star pattern, framed within a scalloped apron with molded edge detail. Four slender tapering legs end in a distinctive curved pad foot, a recurrent formal element in Buffa’s work of this period.
Galdino Maspero was one of the Milanese ateliers Buffa returned to consistently throughout the 1940s, producing furniture of high craft quality for private residential commissions. The 1948 date places this table within a particularly productive moment
