Nerone & Patuzzi sculptural wooden wall panel for NP2, mahogany, Italy, 1973.
This untitled sculpture panel, created by Nerone & Patuzzi around 1970, is a unique piece crafted from vertically oriented mahogany. The panel features curved, triangular, and linear motifs with a megalithic flavor. The interplay of light and shadow defines the full and empty spaces of the sculptural form, creating zones of shadow and enhancing the perception of the figures. The different wood grains add to this effect, creating a sense of movement and enhancing the perception.
The NP2 group, founded in 1962 by Nerone Ceccarelli and Giancarlo Patuzzi, aimed to experiment with original methods of artistic expression through materials and advancing the incorporation of art into architectural spaces. They initially produced individually signed works, but from the 1970s, they also created unsigned panels and furnishings to bring aesthetics into living spaces.
The panel can also be installed horizontal.
