Italian Large Curved Sofa, Leather, Italy, 2010
This large curved sofa unfolds in a single continuous serpentine line, its back and seat cushions merging into one uninterrupted volume upholstered in cream leather. The silhouette is unmistakably sculptural: a soft S-curve that swells and narrows along its length, terminating in rounded, almost organic arm sections rather than conventional armrests. Vertical topstitching at the front corners and a fine double seam running along the seat break up the expanse of leather with quiet precision, while the low black lacquered plinth base lets the upholstered form appear to float just above the floor.
Produced in Italy in 2010, the sofa draws on a long-standing Italian upholstery tradition of biomorphic seating, in which the sofa is conceived less as an assembly of parts than as a single sculpted mass. The continuous curve, the absence of a defined armrest, and the floating plinth all echo forms first developed decades earlier, reinterpreted here in a more recent production. As a sofa, it reads as a statement piece for an open lounge or reception setting, equally suited to a residential living room with generous proportions. Its cream leather upholstery is original and shows a gentle, even surface consistent with light use.
