Vico Magistretti 930 “Carimate” lounge chairs for Cassina, red-lacquered wood and straw seat, Italy, 1960, set of two.
The 930 “Carimate” easy chair was created for the club house of ‘Carimate’s Golf Club’ restaurant in 1963. This model recalls the “Carimate” chair, inspired by the tradition of countryside furniture and simple materials such as straw and wood. Magistretti created this series of timeless chairs combining traditional Italian craftsmanship and modernist design.
Furniture, lamps, and other objects designed by Vico Magistretti (1920-2006) may be found worldwide. Magistretti’s research has been continuous - into the design, the culture of the project, and innovative experimentation with materials and space solutions, not to mention shapes and functions far from the rigors of fashion they have passed through during the years. He started designing for Cassina in 1960, and from that date on, his signature will be found on many products.
