Eric Jacobson Coffee Table, Terrazzo Marble, 1990

Description

Eric Jacobson, coffee table, terrazzo marble, Germany, 1990

This Eric Jacobson coffee table with its plinth-like simplicity, monumental design, showcases a sophisticated blend of weight and elevation. Slightly raised on rounded legs, the table achieves a refined geometric presence. Its compact, square form features central incised bands, reinforcing its architectural precision. The inside and invisible to the external wooden structure is clad in terrazzo finish slabs, crafted with an agglomeration of red stone and marble fragments in various granulometries. The material is compact, finely polished, and semi-glossy, referred to as “Ronuv.” Its surface exhibits natural terracotta tones and subtle marble variations, adding depth and texture to its design. Designed as a cohesive piece, the table aligns seamlessly with the surrounding furniture through its structural harmony. Explicitly recalling the architectural marble pieces of Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper, its distinctive finish creates a sculptural centerpiece, while the interplay of texture and form underscores its functional sophistication. This style, reflecting a mix of brutalist and cubist era, aligns with a contemporary revival of minimalism and sculptural furniture.
