Carlo Scarpa “Toledo” Bed for Simon Gavina, 1975

Description

Carlo Scarpa “Toledo” Bed for Simon Gavina, maple, brass, leather, Italy, 1975.

This Carlo Scarpa bed expresses his great passion for architecture and symmetry. The great Italian master originally conceived the bed from a formal idea described in a freehand color drawing done on yellow tissue paper and dedicated to a family friend. The “Toledo” bed develops a supporting structure in solid wood with lighter wooden inserts, showing essential and elegant lines in the typical Scarpa style. The thin and rounded edges counterbalance the apparently sturdy aspect, enhancing the rich materials and the elegant lines. The headboard is made of original leather and is linked to the base with a bronze joint that allows a slight oscillation, allowing the adjustment of the position of the head or the back of the person who leans on that.
