Carlo Nason “LT 907” table lamps for Mazzega, Italy, 1960s, set of two.
A pair of mushroom-form table lamps in white opaline Murano glass, each composed of a rounded dome shade resting on a cylindrical glass stem. A band of clear glass runs around the base of each dome, catching and diffusing light as it passes from the interior glow of the stem outward through the shade. A small white tab projects from the underside of each shade, a functional detail original to the design. One example retains its manufacturer's label, reading "AV Mazzega, Murano, Made in Italy" alongside the "Vetri Murano" mark, confirming both maker and origin of the glass.
Carlo Nason designed this pair for A.V. Mazzega, the Murano firm where, from the mid-1960s into the 1980s, he produced an entire generation of lamps under conditions of considerable creative freedom. Born into one of Murano's oldest glassmaking families, Nason brought a furnace-trained understanding of glass to his lighting work, overseeing every stage of production from initial drawing to the final metal fittings. The mushroom-shaped lamp, issued in several sizes under the Mazzega catalog, became one of the more widely recognized results of this collaboration, its soft dome and glowing stem translating the rounded, organic vocabulary of the period into blown glass.
