Designed in 1959 by Angelo Lelii, the “Stella a 4” ceiling lamp reflects the refined balance between geometry and atmosphere that defined Italian lighting at mid-century. Suspended from a slender brass stem, four cantilevered arms radiate outward, each ending in a sandblasted glass shade with brass finial—creating a composition that feels both poised and weightless.
As founder and artistic director of Arredoluce, Lelii developed a distinctive language of sculptural functionality. “Stella a 4” belongs to a lineage of his modular, kinetic fixtures like “Tris” and “President,” sharing affinities with the radical clarity of Gino Sarfatti and the expressive minimalism of Serge Mouille.
The use of opaline and etched glass situates this piece within a broader postwar experimentation seen in the work of Max Ingrand, Gio Ponti, and Pietro Chiesa—where form and light were conceived as a unified spatial experience.
