Afra & Tobia Scarpa “Artona” coffee table for Maxalto, red top, iron and veneer burl, Italy, 1977.
This coffee table is part of the “Artona” collection which was the prime-quality line produced by Maxalto, the specialist division of B&B Italia. The support structure of the table is composed of slender cylindrical columns of different types of wood, organized in a square grid and fastened to the base by means of a plate with holes in which they are inserted. the attachment to the top makes the end of each piece of solid wood emerge from the surface above; the circular imprints obtained, with their different tones, further enrich the design.
