Primitivist Wooden Sculpture, Italy, 1990s

A tall panel with a notched top and stepped sides carries a carved central figure, a face-like form with two small eyes set into the wood. A fine red line follows the edge of the notches, a quiet touch of colour against the deep, chocolate-brown surface. The figure is cut with soft, flowing lines, like a bird or a winged mask, and the grain runs in long, even strokes across the panel. It stands on a slender stem and a rectangular base, so the whole piece feels upright and composed. A signature is carved on the upper right of the panel.
