Primitive Monumental Totemic Wooden Throne, Italy, 1990s
Dimensions
Primitive Monumental Totemic Wooden Throne, Italy, 1990s.
A tall tapering back rises to a mask-like head with side ears and a long carved nose. The throne is built from planks of reclaimed wood joined with wooden pegs. The vertical grain of the boards runs the full height of the figure, and a round hole bored through the back adds a quiet accent. The seat is a thick, hand-worked board on squared legs. Seated or standing alone, it has the presence of a guardian figure.
