Primitive Monumental Monolithic Wooden Throne, Italy, 1990s
Dimensions
Primitive Monumental Monolithic Wooden Throne, Italy, 1990s.
The throne ends in a hooded crest with two round disc eyes and a T-shaped nose of pale wood, a reference to African masks. Below it the back narrows into a single, solid vertical, with fine slots cut between the boards. The contrast between the pale carved face and the dark planks gives the head a striking clarity. It stands on four squared legs with a plain, sturdy seat. Its height is slightly lower than most of the series.
