Primitive Monumental Gothic Wooden Throne, Italy, 1990s
Dimensions
Primitive Monumental Gothic Wooden Throne, Italy, 1990s.
This throne climbs in a pitched profile, with a sawtooth edge running down both sides of the back. The form recalls the carved wooden sculpture of village churches. The surface keeps a deep reddish brown tone, and the planks of the back are fitted together like panels. A small keyhole-shaped carving near the top gives the tall, narrow back a focal point. The seat sits on thick squared legs.
