Pietro Chiesa Table Lamp for Fontana Arte, brass and glass, Italy, 1940s, attributed

Rising from a weighted circular base, the brass stem tapers upward in a slender trumpet form before flaring out to support a wide saucer shade. The shade combines a brass rim, finely reeded along its edge, with a dark satin-finished glass or metal top and an opaline glass diffuser set beneath it, so the light source itself remains concealed and the lamp reads as a soft, glowing disc when lit. A small turned brass finial crowns the shade, and the brass throughout the piece carries a rich, natural patina built up over decades, with the kind of speckling and warm tonal variation typical of aged unlacquered brass.

The lamp is attributed to Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte, and the attribution rests on the strong stylistic affinity between this piece and Chiesa's documented lighting output from the mid-1940s, a period during which he served as artistic director of Fontana Arte and developed a distinctive vocabulary combining brass structure with glass diffusion.
