Paolo Buffa armchairs for Egidio Proserpio, velvet, Italy, 1956, set of two.

Designed in 1956, this set of two armchairs by Paolo Buffa captures Milanese elegance through compact, sculptural forms. Each chair features a generous winged back opening like a fan, gently defined by restrained button tufting and outlined with crisp piping that emphasizes the fluid geometry. Rounded, protective arms and deep seats create an inviting posture, while the slender, subtly splayed wooden legs lend lightness and visual balance.

Paolo Buffa (1903–1970) stands among the most refined voices of Italian design, celebrated for his ability to merge classical proportion with modern clarity. Produced with the Egidio Proserpio workshop, this pair reflects Buffa’s quiet sophistication and masterful craftsmanship, resonating with the cultivated sensibility associated with Gio Ponti, Guglielmo Ulrich, and Osvaldo Borsani.

The set can be split. The armchairs can be sold singularly.
