Luciano Cesaro "Alien" Table Lamps for Tre Ci Luce, 1970s, Set of 2
Dimensions
Luciano Cesaro “Alien” Table Lamps for Tre Ci Luce, Glass and Metal, Italy, 1970s, Set of 2.
Cesaro gave the model a flying saucer profile: a tapering conical metal base carries a double-layered opal glass diffuser, and a clear glass tip rises from the apex. The shade is built from two glass discs held together by small metal clips, which leaves a narrow gap along its widest edge. The Alien belongs to the Space Age current of Italian lighting design, where UFO and saucer forms became a recurring theme for table lamps. Cesaro’s design for Tre Ci Luce works through the simplest means: two glass elements, a few metal fixings and a single conical support. The frosted surface spreads the light evenly through the glass, the clear tip is the only transparent element, and the cone keeps the proportions grounded.
