Jules Leleu Round Coffee Table, wood, brass and glass, France, 1955.

Designed in 1955, this round coffee table distills Jules Leleu’s mature language into a quiet, composed gesture. The circular form is not a stylistic flourish, but a decision rooted in balance—meant to soften space, to invite proximity, to dissolve hierarchy within the room.

Leleu (1883–1961) approached modernity with restraint. Unlike the radical gestures of his contemporaries, his work evolves through refinement rather than rupture. One senses echoes of late Art Deco discipline, filtered through the sobriety of post-war France, where luxury becomes less declarative and more internalized.

This table belongs to that moment: poised between tradition and modernism, where craftsmanship remains visible but never ostentatious. It resonates with the understated elegance found in the interiors of Jean-Michel Frank or the measured geometries of Pierre Chareau, yet speaks in a softer voice—one that values proportion over spectacle.
