Jacques Adnet office desk, wood and brass, France, 1948.
Writing desk by Jacques Adnet, France, 1948. The structure rests on two full-panel supports with stepped bases, framing a central kneehole. The top is veneered in a lighter wood, while the drawer fronts are faced in a strongly figured darker veneer — the contrast between the two essences is a deliberate compositional choice. Five drawers in total, arranged asymmetrically across the front face: three on the left pedestal, one wide central drawer, and two on the right. Each drawer is fitted with a stepped wooden pull mounted on a brass backplate, with a round brass escutcheon. The drawer construction is hand-cut, with dovetail joints visible on the sides.
