Designed in 1950 by Gio Ponti for the Fondazione Garzanti di Forlì, this side table embodies the designer’s refined and measured approach to form in the early postwar years. Created for an institutional setting, it reflects Ponti’s ability to translate architectural thinking into intimate, domestic-scale furniture.

The circular white top is framed by a warm walnut edge and supported by four slender, slightly splayed legs. The proportions are carefully calibrated: light, balanced, and effortless. The dialogue between the pale surface and the depth of the wood gives the piece a quiet presence, rooted in material contrast rather than ornament.

This restraint echoes Ponti’s broader research of the 1950s, a period that also saw the development of his collaborations with Cassina and the progressive refinement that would lead to icons such as the Leggera and Superleggera.
