Gio Ponti 699 "Superleggera" dining chairs for Cassina, ash and rope, Italy, 1957, set of eight.

In 1957 the Italian furniture manufacturer Amedeo Cassina added a new dining chair to its collection. It was created by the architect and designer Gio Ponti and, since it weighed a mere 1.7kg, it was given the name "Superleggera", meaning super-lightweight.
The "Superleggera" is the evolution of the earlier 646 "Leggera", originally designed by Ponti in 1954. The leg profile was changed from round to triangular. Cross struts were reduced to extremely fine oval battens and the backrest changed to just two curved bars.

The set can be split. The dining chairs can be sold singularly.
