The silhouette of this coffee table reads as a single cross-section of a tree trunk, its top surface an irregular, cloud-like shape with a gently scalloped perimeter that catches light along every curve. The base is worked in a continuous vertical rippling pattern, alternating deep folds and rounded ridges that recall the texture of bark, all rendered in a high-polish chromed metal that gives the piece a fluid, almost liquid quality despite its solid, monolithic volume. The coffee table has no visible legs or joinery; the entire form reads as one continuous mass, with the mirrored top surface offering a striking contrast to the more sculptural, tactile treatment of the sides.

The piece belongs to a strand of French design from the closing decades of the twentieth century in which furniture makers turned toward organic and naturalistic forms, treating the coffee table less as an assembly of parts than as a single sculptural object. This lineage runs through the work of designers such as Maria Pergay, whose stainless steel pieces repeatedly translated tree trunks, waves, and shells into polished metal, and sculptor Albert Feraud, who brought a related sensibility to welded steel tables in the same period.
