Edoardo Landi designed the "540" dining chair in 1973, at a time when Italian design was redefining its language through geometry, structure, and restraint.

The design is built around a strong architectural frame in solid wood with a warm, natural finish, where visible grain and knots become part of the chair’s identity. Squared legs and a rigid, almost monolithic stance give the structure a grounded presence, while the tall, tapering backrest rises with a sharp, controlled profile. The white fabric upholstery introduces a clean visual counterpoint, softening the composition without diluting its graphic strength.

The contrast between the raw character of the wood and the clarity of the upholstery highlights Landi’s precise handling of proportion and balance. Every element feels intentional—measured, disciplined, and expressive through restraint rather than decoration.

The proportions recall the structural clarity explored by designers such as Vico Magistretti and Gianfranco Frattini during the same period. The "540" does not seek comfort through excess, but through posture and spatial control, asserting its presence quietly yet decisively.
