DS-600 "Snake" sofa for De Sede, black leather, Italy, 1972, set of eighteen.

Launched in 1972, DS-600 "Snake" is a variable modular system of upholstered furniture with individual, addable armchair elements. These consist of an L-shaped hard foam core covered with a down-lined, leather-covered cushion. The elements are connected with a plug-in hinge and a construction made of hide and zipper, creating a snake-shaped seat with an end element.

De Sede has its origins in a small skilled saddler's workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland. The craftsmen there committed themselves to transforming the best leather into seating furniture. Their years of experience and diligence enabled them to create hand-crafted leather furniture of singular quality.
In 1965, the family-run business became a joint-stock company called de Sede AG, but remained faithful to their original guiding principles.
The company developed rapidly from this moment onwards: top designers of international calibre were brought on board to create seating furniture. Sophisticated designs that skilfully integrate traditional and precise Swiss workmanship swiftly gained the brand an international reputation.
