"Croisillon" table lamps in the style of Jean-Michel Frank, wood, France, 1940s, set of two.

This pair of table lamps takes its form from the "Croisillon" model associated with Jean-Michel Frank, built around the crossed lattice motif that gives the design its name. The base is constructed from intersecting metal struts arranged in a rigorous geometric grid, tapering toward a narrow foot and rising to support the fitting. The proportions are compact and architectural, with the crossed elements catching light differently depending on the angle of view, a quality that has made the model a recognizable presence in period interiors and their later interpretations.

The first "Croisillon" lamp was developed within Jean-Michel Frank's circle of production in the 1930s, most notably through Comte in Buenos Aires, the workshop Frank established with Argentine collaborators to execute his designs for major commissions of the period, including work for the Hotel Horizonte in Mar del Plata. The crossed-strut construction became one of the most enduring motifs associated with Frank's minimalist, materially restrained approach to furnishing, and the model has been widely referenced and reissued in the decades since.
