Constructivist Wooden Sculpture, Italy, 1970s.
Dimensions
Constructivist Wooden Sculpture, Italy, 1970s.
A triangular form built from layered strips of wood, their edges cut in a soft wave, rises from a stepped base of old planks. Reddish tones show where the layers separate and overlap, and the front reads as a single sail while the side reveals the full depth of the construction. The base is made of rough, worn pieces that contrast with the cleaner lines above. Luciano Bertolotto assembled his sculptures by fitting pieces together, and this work from the 1970s, like many of his, makes its structure part of its image.
