Carlo Scarpa 1934 "765" dining chairs for Bernini, black leather, 1934, set of six.

Initially designed for Scarpa's own Venetian house in 1934, this model came up to production only in 1977. This chair demonstrates his
architectural attitude toward furniture design. The sophisticated and right-angled base contrasts with the backrest essentiality, further enriched by its curvaceous shapes. A remarkable detail is an open cut on the back that diverges at the bottom, resulting in an unusual yet genuine form. Although an apparent disharmonic look is created, these details enhance the chair's elegance.

Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) was one of the most important and influential architects of the 20th century. He has been influenced by the materials, landscape and the history of Venetian culture, and by Japan. Scarpa translated his interests in history, regionalism, invention, and the techniques of the artist and craftsman into ingenious glass and furniture design.
