Abstract Wooden Sculpture, Italy, 1990s
Dimensions
Abstract Wooden Sculpture, Italy, 1990s.
Two curved, hook-like forms rise from a small base of interlocking stepped pieces. One is painted red on its inner face, and the colour appears only as the viewer turns the piece, against the natural pine and warm brown of the rest. The opening between the two arms sets up a quiet dialogue on a small scale. The stepped base repeats a motif that appears across the work of Bertolotto, who signed as Pompi: a band of small interlocking blocks, used almost like a signature.
