Frank Lloyd Wright “Midway 1” dining chairs for Cassina, fabric and wood, Italy, editions from the 1980s, set of six.
The chair was actually never made at the time has been produced by developing design sketches for interiors within the Midway Gardens. In the certainty that it effectively includes the aesthetic intentions of the architect, the chair is based on hexagonal forms deriving from Wright’s creative skill with a set-square within a framework of straight lines and horizontal plains- In his eyes, shapes are visually pleasing forms and in actual fact the gardens were to be a comment on the art of building, particularly through the furnishings. In this context, the design of the surround of the chair is remarkable. The side wings bring together the functions of arm-rest and back-rest but however the chair is in no way out of place at a table.
