Ennio Chiggio “Ciot” floor lamp for Lumenform, 1973

Description

Ennio Chiggio “Ciot” Floor Lamp for Lumenform, Plexiglass, Italy, 1973

The “Ciot” floor lamp, designed by Ennio Chiggio in 1973 for Lumenform, captures the spirit of Italian experimentation in the 1970s. A cylindrical black structure supports a hemispherical acrylic diffuser, adjustable to create shifting effects of light and shadow.

Chiggio, artist and designer associated with the Venetian Gruppo N, translated his optical and kinetic research into objects that transcend mere function. The “Ciot” is not only a lamp, but a perceptual device — where form and light interact dynamically.

While deeply rooted in conceptual research, its futuristic geometry and use of synthetic materials resonate with the Space Age aesthetic, a visual language also explored by contemporaries like Joe Colombo, Gae Aulenti, and Vico Magistretti. The result is a luminous sculpture that bridges avant-garde art and collectible Italian design.
