Alberto Rosselli “Confidential” Modular Sofa for Saporiti, leather, Italy, 1972, set of 6
Designed in 1972 by Alberto Rosselli for Saporiti, the “Confidential” sofa was among the first modular seating systems to integrate technological innovation and sensual comfort into a single expressive form. Each module is defined by deep cushioning, fluid silhouettes, and a visible wrapping structure that emphasizes the junction between backrest and seat—almost like the interlocking of sculptural planes. Upholstered in supple chocolate leather, this L-shaped configuration reveals Rosselli’s capacity to balance volume, repetition, and rhythm. Rosselli—co-founder of the influential Studio Ponti-Fornaroli-Rosselli and an early advocate of ergonomics—crafted furniture that was both architectural and responsive to the human body. The “Confidential” series captures that duality: precise yet welcoming, modular yet sculptural. A defining work of early 1970s Italian design.
